Question
Hi, I am currently changing my Anoles enclosure from artificial plants to real ones. I have got a dragon tree, an African violet, ivy, parlour palm, i bought organic soil but it seems to have little white gravel like bits. Are these harmful, i know about substrate and impacting but i don't know if this is a fertilizer? Please advise.

Answer
Hello Terri, its nice to see you are getting a little more natural it helps with the humidity also. Well it sounds like they are the things to keep in moisture (the little white foam pellets) To be on the safe side I would go find a different soil. I use Organic Choice (made by Miracle-Gro) and it is sold at Wal*Mart but is also found at stores like Home Depot. I have never had a problem with it. It is made for vegetable gardens because it has no pesticides and everything. I am not sure if what you have is fertilizer but its probably best to not risk it. The little white foam moisture holders (I forget the name) are also bad for the lizards. I also wanted to tell you that the plants you have picked out sound great. I have a 6 dragon trees (all different varieties) two fake plants and one African violet in my green anole tank.
Good luck and I'm sure you Anoles will love the new plants.
