Question
I am planning on purchasing a bearded dragon in the near future. I bought all the supplies to set up the habitat. I wanted to make sure I could keep the the temperature and humidity stable before I bought a dragon. I have been able to keep the basking spot at 105 the cool side is at 80 however the hygrometer is reading 15. I live in New Mexico and it is really dry here. I read that it needs to read 40%. Is this true? How do I get the humidity up and keep it up? and you are supposed to wash your hands before and after handling them. is it ok to use germ x or a similar product before handling bearded dragons

Answer
I would keep a shallow pan of clean water to help with humidity. But be sure to take it out at night so the baby doesn't try to sleep in it.  Do not use sand in his habitat, no only is particulate substrate bad for babies, but sand is drying.  I prefer non adhesive shelf liner myself, very easy to clean.
I wash with plain soap and water before, and after, then smearing Purell after as well.
