Veiled vs Panther

Hi Thea,

Could you please tell me what is the difference between the care for a Veiled chameleon and a Panther Chameleon. My veiled chameleon died a couple weeks ago and I am looking for a replacement, but I wanted to go for a Panther instead. I want to know if it is much different care. My chameleon died a 4 years old, so I know what to do with a Veiled.

Hi Olivier, In terms of care those two species are not much different so it should be an easy transition. The supplementation and diet is the same. Panthers are reported to take some vegetation as well but that was not my experience. Your basking temperature should be around 90 - 95 F and normal room temperature is fine at night. I always tried to keep a slightly higher humidity level for panthers but the literature suggests that it is not really necessary.
I would definitely suggest that you get a male. Unfortunately panthers are not as easily sexed when they are young as veileds are. Enjoy your new cham!
