Leopard gecko losing weight

Question
We have two high yellow leopard geckos.  One is fat and healthy.  The other is losing weight, no appetite but yet very active.  My guess is that he/she has some sort of parasite.  Her eyes are clear, her skin is great, but she is skinny.  I have a call in to our vet.  Any advice?

Answer
Hi Dawn, It does sound as though she has parasites, I suggest separting them either putting a barrier in the tank or moving one to a different tank, and clean the tank VERY well. It is contagious, in a way. You will need to take fecal samples in to the vet with you. As fresh of samples as you can get I suggest 2-3 samples store them in a ziploc type sandwich bag in the fridge until your vet visit. The vet will be able to diagnose the exact parasite (if any) and give the medication needed. Other then that I don't know of anything else you can do until a vet visit. Ask your vet for ways to get him to eat as well and bring up "chicken baby food" and find his/her opinion. It is recommended for some lizards (by vets) in order to get them to eat being fed it by a plastic syringe. If not then you can hand feed or blend up the food items (crickets and such) and put it in the plastic syringe with a little bit of water and gently hand feed him with the syringe.
