Bearded Dragon- Internal Bleeding?

Question
QUESTION: My brother just found his 2-3 year old bearded dragon laying listlessly in its cage. It is hardly breathing, has a dark grey beard and has reddish drool hanging from its mouth. Its skin is also very cool to the touch. (I don't really hold it that often, so I'm not sure if that's normal or not.) The last thing it ate were some worms a few days ago. We'll try to get it to a vet, but in the mean time, is there anything we can do to help?

ANSWER: Hello Holland,

Oh geez, poor dragon.  It sounds like it could be liver or kidney failure if blood is coming from his mouth.
What is the setup of his tank like?  What is the type & brand of UVB being used, a flourescent tube bulb or a compact or coil light?
What are the temps in the tank, & what does he use to measure the temps with?  A stick on thermometer, a digital probe or a temp gun?
What type of substrate does he use for the bottom of the tank, sand, tiles, paper towels?
If his beard is greyish to dark, he is in distress or pain so he definitely does need to see a vet as soon as you can get him in!
Will he take any water or oral fluids into him with use of a dropper?  He should try to get some oral fluids into him if he will take them.
If he will take some chicken or turkey babyfood, you can mix some water & vitamins in with that & get him some food from a dropper as well.
No, the skin should not be cold to the touch unless he is sleeping.  During the day he should be warmer while he is up & basking.
Let me know how he is doing.
Keep him as comfortable as you can overnight, & don't let him get too cold.  Try to keep him around 75-80 overnight.

QUESTION: Thanks for writing me back. In response to your questions-

The UVB is a flourescent tube (don't know the brand). There's no thermometer in the tank, so I don't know the exact temperature, but its definitely warm enough. The cage is lined with sand. My brother just went to find a dropper, so we'll see if he'll take any fluids. His beard has lightened a little.  Only now he's laying with his mouth open and seems to be gaping for air every 30 seconds or so. Thanks for any help you can give, hopefully he'll make it through the night.

Answer
Hello Holland,

Well, there can be no guessing with the temperatures.  If his skin was cold to the touch, then he may not have enough heating.
He needs to get a digital probe or a temp gun to make sure that the temps are correct.  The basking needs to be 95-110 & the cool side around 78-82.
He could be impacted from the sand.  He will need to take the sand out & replace it with paper towels for right now.
Do you know how old the flourescent tube bulb UVB is?  The brand is normally stamped on the base of the bulb.
That does not sound good, the gasping for air every 30 seconds though.  He may not make it.
How do his eyes look, do they appear sunken in or bright & elevated?
