Question
Can melaleuca mulch be used as bedding for snake cages?

Answer
Hi Marta,
Great Question.  This stuff [melaleuca mulch] has been in My backyard [Florida] for years.
I used it years ago and started getting snakes with respiratory conditions that I had not had before.
I stopped using it and things cleared up. I haven't used it since. The stuff is supposed to be
great for humans but don't get your snakes near it. If you buy it you can be sure it is full of
chemicals harmful to your pet. If you are in  a place you can get it wild it probably has been
sprayed from the air. This is highly controversial and I would not use anything that is a possible
problem creator. Hope this helps. I still like newspaper or artificial turf for dress up times like photo taking sessions. Edmund Brown [ReptileEd]
