Transporting a beardie during brumation/Shedding issues

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I am adopting a male beardie (a little over a year old) and this is his first winter brumating.  From what I was told, he has been brumating for a few months and it has been a light one.  I would prefer to wait until he is completely out of it, but circumstances wont allow it.  What would be the best way?  Should I try and wake him a few days before the move first, bathe and feed before moving (I understand that he wont wake up fully until he is good and ready).  Or should I just leave him be and move him 'as is'?  I am fully aware of keeping him warm during the move and I plan on his new cage being as exact as the one he is leaving so hopefully he wont be as stressed with a changed environment.  Any advice on the transporting and adjusting to a new home would be greatly appreciated.    Jennifer

ANSWER: Hello Jennifer,

Actually, it would be less stressful on him to keep him as he is for the moment.  How cold will it be when you are traveling?  It isn't as important to keep them warm when they are brumating, so he can stay a little cooler when traveling.
That sounds great you have set up his new tank just like his old one.  He may still go through a little relocation stress but it will be minimal, hopefully.
Do you have any pictures of him?

QUESTION: Thank you for your quick response.  I live in Minnesota so it is a little cool now.  The temperatures have been in the high 50's to low 60's.  I do not have a picture of him yet, but will be sure to send one as soon as he is in his new home.  I will be getting him in a few days.  I am sooooo excited.  I had a dragon before (he was a rescue), but he was very sick when I got him.  The  vet and I agreed that euthanizing  him would be best.  Again, I appreciate the time you took to answer my questions.

ANSWER: Hello Jennifer,

You are welcome.  If they are that low, you can get those handwarmers at the sporting goods stores to use to help keep him a little warmer when traveling with him.
I am sure that you are going to enjoy him, you can send pictures of him when you get him!
I am sorry about your previous dragon, having to let him go like that.  It is never easy when that happens.

Let me know if you need anything.

QUESTION: Hello Tracie,

Again,  thank you for your speedy response.  My mother also has a bearded dragon.  Her name is Christina and she is 6 yrs old (best estimation).  She is concerned because Christina has not shed in close to a year.  She is eating and seems active.  Is there reason for concern?

Answer
Hello Jennifer,

You are welcome!  :-)
Usually, bearded dragons as they get older, don't shed as often, but most of the time once per year.
Is she using a UVB light on Christina?  How often does she give calcium for her & what foods does she eat?

I hope you are doing well.
