Question
QUESTION: Last night I was handling my 6mo old mali uromastyx and I noticed a yellow sore under his tail.  I have heard that neosporin is ok to use on reptiles so I have been applying that to the sore.  However I was wondering if a yellow sore would mean that it's infected?  What are the signs of infection on reptiles?  With beardies I know a bandaid can be used on sores, can it also be used on uros?  Thanks

ANSWER: Signs of infection are basically the same as they would be in humans.  If you'd like to submit a follow up with a picture of the sore I can tell you if it's infected and probably what caused it.  It kind of sounds like maybe a burn.  A bandaid could be used I suppose though most times it will not stick and you run a slight risk of them eating it.  If you do use one I'd make sure to use one of the types that wrap around several times not just the standard regular bandaid.  Also depending on the substrate you may want to put him on newspaper or cage carpet for awhile until the sore is healed.

QUESTION: Thanks for the quick reply.  He is on millet right now, pretty soon he will be on tile.  It doesn't look like it would be infected if its by the same standards of people

Answer
Yeah that's pretty much exactly what I was picturing.  The millet will probably stick to the neosporin a bit so if you want to cover it like I said make sure you use a long style bandaid if you have no idea what I'm talking about I'll try to look up the style I mean and show you.  It does not look infected from the picture remember don't keep it covered all the time it needs to breathe and just keep it dry and irritant free and it should be fine by next shed.
