Question
Hi, well, I asked a question a littler earlier about adding a mouse to my turtles' cage. Bad idea. Also I was told that I should that I should separate my turtles. I had them in one HUGE aquarium (not sure how many gallons) would a 30 gallon tank suffice for each of them? One is an African Spur and one is a Red Foot. Both are small. Also, do I need to get heating lamps or anything? Can I take them out and let them "play" / interact with each other? How do they get along with lizards?

Answer
Hello Nikki,

A 30 gallon tank for the Red Foot will be fine but not for the African Spur.  He will need a larger one.
Do not put them in with any lizards, or do not put any lizards in with them.  It is never wise to mix species due to zoonotic reasons & for safety.
Lizards stress easily & they would not really enjoy being around a turtle too much.  A turtle could bite them.
Your turtles need a basking spot yes.  They will need a basking temperature of or around 90F.  Also, they do need a UVB light as well.  The best one is the Reptisun 10 flourescent tube bulb.
So you will need to have a digital probe or temp gun in order to measure the temperatures correctly.
The Red Foot will only get around 12-14 inches, but the African Spur can get to 26 inches.
You can have them both out at the same time to interact but may need to watch them pretty closely depending on the sex of them.
