Question
QUESTION: I have a bearded dragon that iv had for about 4 months he recently was diagnosed with MBD.  I took him to the vet and got him a very high quality calcium supplement i give to him by moth every day.  Recently i noticed him gaping a lot and he has vicious displays of a his beard where he seems to be coughing or spitting but he but his mouth stayes closed and everything really.  he is still eating and moving and climbing and normally just wondering if this is a possible infection.

ANSWER:   When does he gape?  If it's while he's basking, check his temps.  His basking temp should be 100F-105F, measured where he basks with a digital thermometer.  Lots of beardies will gape if they are a little too warm but isn't bothering to move.  I would need to know how old he is, because males over a year old will start displaying that they are an available male even though they aren't adults till they are 18 months old.  However, if his beard is always black, it is a sign of some kind of distress and should be seen by the vet.
Beardies hiss, that's common, but what is not common is the "talker", and it's even rarer in males.  Some beardies grunt, sort of a frog croak, and they can get loud with practice.

And jsut for the recored im not entiryl sure of his sex it tried to sex him just from stuff i read.  And i think hes male im not sure.

Answer
Go to Wal-Mart or Sears and get the digital thermometer with a probe.  If you are using the stick-ons, it could be off as much as 20 degrees.  Sounds like he is too hot.  Give him a good bath and fill a shallow container with water for him to cool off in when he wants until you get the thermometer and get the temp down.  At most it should be 105F.
