Question
Hi! So, I bought a Uro today and I'm not completely sure she's healthy. She has 2 white spots on her, that aren't hard or anything, they're just white. Also she has some white crusty stuff in her nostrils. Could you possibly tell me what this is? I don't know if it's unhealthy or not, and if it is how should I fix it?

Answer
Hi,
I apologize that I've not gotten to your question til now but I had a very early prior commitment...
There are many species of uromastyx so with the white spots, that could be normal to the species you have.
With the "white crusty stuff"  if it is not mucous looking and looks like dried salt, its normal.  Reptiles expel excess salts from their bodies by sneezing.  When it dries, it can form the "salt deposits" on their nostrils.
We have come up with the name  "snalt" for this.  If there is a constant discharge that is thick looking then that can be a respiratory infection and its vital to get your uro to a vet that is able to treat reptiles. To find one in your area, please go to www.anapsid.org/vets
You can find more on uros and the various species of them at http://www.kingsnake.com/uromastyx/
Hope this has helped you out.  If you have any more questions, please be sure to ask.
Again, I apologize for the late response.
