Baby iguana with swollen ankle?

Question
Hi,
I have had a baby green iguana for the last 2 weeks now, she seems to be less than a year old. My boyfriend noticed on Saturday that one of her feet/ankle seems to be swollen and she is dragging it behind her. She can put weight on it and is moving around as normal. She is very active and loves to climb and jump. Could it be that she might of just sprained her ankle from landing funny? She can put weight on it and is fine with you touching it. There has been no change in her behaviour she is happy go lucky as usual. If she has sprained her ankle what can we do to help any pain she may be in? Or if it is broken, what processes will be involved in getting it fixed? I assume it would be quite difficult as her bones are so small?

Answer
Hi Laura,
I doubt that it would be broke since she is using it normally.
Do you see any discoloration to it such as a white or gray?  It can look swollen when its getting ready to shed an area.
I suggest that you really watch her and see if she is actually dragging her foot, or if she is just doing the "ig shuffle" they can do when they are walking/sneaking slow.
If it would be sprained, then there isn't a lot to do except limit climbing and "pad" the floor of the cage so that when she jumps, its cushioned... if its broke, it can be casted ..but only a vet can diagnose if there is a break. If you feel there is a health related problem, then a vet is needed.
