Question
Tracie, I need some advise regarding my Bearded Dragon. I've had him about 8 yrs. He recently developed a small hole on his tail. I've been filling the hole with bacitracin with no success. He always has alot of crickets to eat and there are always alot in his tank he also gets his veggies (celery greens, cantelope, grapes. I'm quite worried about this hole as it's been there over a week and I don't see any improvement. I don't know what to try.

Answer
Hello Dave,

Oh boy, a hole is not good.
The hole in his tail was most likely caused by the crickets.  Unfortunately, leaving crickets in his tank is not safe.  So, I highly recommend removing any excess crickets in his tank after a little while.  Crickets are very carnivorous & will eat absolutely anything, including toes, eyelids, tails, etc.
Do you happen to have a picture of that you could show me, so I could see the severity of the injury?
For now, until you can take him to a vet, continue to pack the area with antibiotic ointment to help ward off infectino.
Are you using a solid or loose substrate?  I recommend, if you are using a loose substrate, to take that out & replace it with paper towels to help keep dirt & debris from getting in the wound.
