Hermit crab substrate

Question
I got some forest bedding for my crabs. I read that it will, over time, compact. I was wondering how to keep it damp to help the humidity of the tank? Should I "water" it or is it supposed to just dry out?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Rick

Answer
hey rick,
you can mist it several times a day, also small potted plants will help keep your humidity 60-70 percent,it should feel very tropical, temp no lower than 72 degrees, hermits loke and need to tunnle so if you can use a 10 gallon tank and substrate can be sand, or coconut fiber is great,it is called echo-block,bedabeast,and forest bedding, and you want it to stay a little moist.

hope this was helpful let me know
