?ear waz in an African Yellow striped plated lizard

My African Yellow Plated Lizard has a brownish matter starting to bulge from what I would assume his ear area to be.  A whitish piece fell out that was somewhat triangle shaped.  It almost looked like a pointed tooth from a puppy.  There were also some other small little white things that we were able to get out.  As we were slightly touching these things there was a little bit of blood and definitely some old dried blood came out.
   In the past we had 2 younger lizards of the same breed, who both unfortunately have passed away, and in this same area you could see right through out to the other side.  This area was completely clear and cleaned out.  You could  look in one side and wave on the other side and see the person waving.   Do you have any ideas as to what this might be.

Do you have a picture of that of his ear?  I need to see what you are referring to, as I have never heard of anything like that.  
What is your setup like in his tank?  
What type of foods are you feeding him?  
Are you using a UVB light, & if so, what type & brand do you use?  A fluorescent tube bulb or a compact/coil light?
What are the temperatures in the tank?  Do you use a digital probe thermometer or a temp gun thermometer?
