Question
Hey I work at a pet store and we just got in baby Egyptian Uromastyx (two of them) and they look very lethargic and wont eat, were trying our best to keep them healthy and alive and from what I've read in the books that we have there theres not too too much known about them and I know they get vitamin problems easily so this is what we've been doing: we give them a pediatlite bath 2-times a day, and feed them .6cc of pedialite and .6cc of baby food (like peas, or green beans) mixed together 2-times a day, I was just wondering if theres anything else we should be doing or if thats good and if thats what were supposed to be doing cause personally I love these little guys ... but thanks for your time and if you could let me know ASAP just because i dont wanna be doing something wrong Thank You -Dorothy!

Answer
Hello Dorothy,

Oh I bet they are beautiful, maybe you could post a few pics of them?
Let's discuss your lighting & heating.  Uros need it hot!
So, do you have a digital probe or a temp gun to measure the temps with?  What are your temps currently?
They need basking temps of up to 120-125 or so.  That means you will need to be using a bright white light such as a halogen bulb along with a UVB light.
The best UVB lights are either the Reptisun 10 flourescent tube bulb, which does not emit heat just UVB.  So you would need to place that directly beside the basking light.
Or if you have a 30 gallon or larger, you can get a Mercury vapor bulb such as the Megaray or the T-rex both of which are great lights.  Then you could use a halogen alongside that to increase temps.
Then, they need a couple of variants of temps for the middle & cooler end so they can thermoregulate.  The cooler end should be around 80 or so.
You are doing great by feeding them the babyfood right now & the pedialyte, so until we get them eating on their own, you can continue that to make sure they get enough food.
