Unknown lizard
Unknown lizard
QUESTION: I live in central North Carolina (Thomasville).  I have several types of lizards in my garden and landscaping.  This one has become quite the "friend" during my morning coffee on the porch.  Can you identify?  I can't find him in my Audubon Field Guide.  Thank you! I have other views of him if you need more.

ANSWER:   I'd like to see other pictures.  From this view, it looks like some sort of agamid, but the substrate around him is not helping, his chest looks blue, is that right or my imagination?  Definitely not a native of NC, SC or Georgia.

QUESTION: I am attaching another pic - yes, his chest/belly is a bright blue.

Answer
Ahhhhh, far better picture and the bricks gives me proportion.  He is a native lizard so your property must afford him everything he needs to live.  And that's why he's hanging around.  Enjoy his company out in the wild.  What you have is an Eastern Fence Lizard.  And he'll help you keep your property organically free of insect pests so avoid using chemical pesticides and herbicides.
