Question
Hi my name is Steven...I have a pet corn snake for 2years now and it is very healthy and full of energy.
I have been using regular wood chip as a substrate since the begining and it has always worked out..
but now i feel like changing that to some kind of polished stones of a small size to put as a substrate
and it would be of a dark color.. i was just woundering if that would be harmfull for the snake.. would
that bother on the humidity control or would of stones heat up to much from the heat lamp and heat
carpet...the stones would save me alot on money and there wont be bugs growing inside them...
Thank you very much if u answer me
Steven

Answer
Every concern you listed is legitimate, and you'd also have to worry about the snake swallowing stones along with meals.  If cost is the big concern, go buy 2 appropriately sized pieces of indoor/outdoor carpet and use those.  $10 and you're good forever.  When one gets dirty take it out and replace it with the clean one.  Take the dirty one outside and hose it off.
