Question
My bearded dragon is very aggresive.she is about +- 4 inches long and i have her for about 2 months now.i can't pick her up without her biting me,why is that?she falls asleep when i rub her behind her head but the rest of the time she is extremely aggresive.she also doesn't want to eat veggies,i gave her carrots and she refused to eat it.she is also busy sheding.she loves her crickets, now and then i give her a cricket or two to eat out of my hand and she doesn't want to bite me then.i'm going to buy her the uvb light.she has rocks and a water dish in her tank.she also has very fine sand in the tank and the tank is enough spacious for her size.i put her in the sun every morning for 45 mins.i can't play with her either.i handle her alot but with gloves, she just wants to bite me the whole time.can you please help me!

Answer
Hi Janika:
I work with venomous snakes and a few non venomous but I will try and help you as much as I can.
1st: Never attempt to handle the dragon until you have washed your hands 100% clean, no other scent but you should be on your hands.
#2: If she or he opens its mouth and gaps at you in a threatening manor, toss a wax worm into its open mouth.  This will confuse it as it will have to stop threatening you and eat.
#3: When you open the enclosure to pick it up have a leaf of endive or collard leaf in the palm of your hand, chances are, it will start eating rather then chewing on you.
#4: When it is in one hand, scratch behind its head with the other, this usually calms a dragon down fast.
#5: When it squirms, it is trying to escape, hold it down gently until it stops squirming and only then allow it to walk away on its own, this will really mess its mind up and it will realize that squirming does not effect a release but being still and pleasant will.
#6: Don't stop handling it, things take time to work out, this is a frightened young animal, it has to learn to trust you and the realize you are not the enemy.

Most of all, buy a good book on captive care of Beaded dragons, then read it at least 5 times, over and over again. Don't give up but understand that some animals simply will never accept a human as a friend.  A little prayer that yours will come around never hurt anyone either.

Hope this helped a little.              Joel
