Question
QUESTION: You are great! Thankyou for your continued responses to my questions! Lizzie is not quite so bloated today; moreso towrds the end of the day,but not NEARLY as much as yesterday! end of tail moves when touched, legs seem to move ever so slightly. When he his sedentary, we've been gently doing "physical therapy" on his back legs and tail, moving them gently in and out, up and down as he would normally do to keep his circulationand muscles moving.Haven't gotten Reptisun bulb yet;will do so if the local pet shop has it when they are open Monday. Meanwhile, it's been gorgeous outside and Lizzie has happily basked, run, and burrowed away (We only let him do it a little so he can't get away from us!) I'm hoping it's not my imagination, but it did seem as tho I noticed slight movement in his back legs today while he was runnin. His front legs sure work well still! I'll switch to a non-dairy yogurt or just cut it out and continue using the green mix w/ added acidophilus and calcium. Will let you know what tomorrow brings! Thanks again!

ANSWER: Hello Holly!

You are very welcome!
I hope that he regains use of his back legs.  If you can get him outside for short intervals, that would be excellent until you are able to get the Reptisun 10 tube bulb for him.  Make sure also, that it is 6-8 inches from him, with no screen in between him & the bulb.  It needs to be placed directly beside a bright white light at one end of the tank.
It sounds like Lizzie is quite happy though.  I hope that he gets better for you.
The physical therapy is a good thing so continue with those exercises for him.  The greens slurry & probiotic along with calcium should help him out a lot, too.
Great job!
Please keep me posted on him!

Thanks.

QUESTION: Hi again, Tracie,
Liz still isn't eating or going to the bathroom. His legs have movement, but he still mostly drags them. It's almost as tho' he doesn't lift his tail enough to walk properly balanced. Still giving him batryl, and the green slurry I mentioned prior, and reduced the mineral oil to once a day. Tried  coarsely pureeing peas, cooked green beansand squash, with olive oil and added calcium, acidophilus and spirulina, but he pushes it back out of his mouth. He's getting syringe shy.
I seem to remember that Uros cannot go long without some form of food in their stomach becuse their digestive system will shut down. I am terrrified of this happening, What can I give him to stimulate his appetite? He's still somewhat bloated, but not as much as in the beginning.
It's been raining here the last couple or so days, so he's had to rely on his tank light fot uvb.No one carries ReptiSun around here, but I found a website where I can purchase it. Meanwhile, I've lowered his light and moved the screen away from it, and raised Lizzie up. I plan to raise the entire bottom of his tank up temporarily, so that when he wants to be off the higher perch, he'll still be near the light.
What can I feed this poor guy? How can I encourage him to eat?I'm so worried, I'm sick and unable to think of anything else but how to make him better.

Answer
Hello Holly,

How is Liz doing today?
You finally found a site to purchase the Reptisun 10 tube bulb?  When do you expect the light to be in?
Continue feeding him the peas, green beans & squash.  Can you find a product called Critical Care?  Where are you located, the US or UK?
How are the temperatures for him?  He needs a range of basking temperatures from 110-125, 130 tops.  The cooler end should be around 78 or so, roughly.
He has the beginnings of metabolic bone disease so that is why he is having a hard time going to the bathroom.  The UVB light is crucial for his health.

Keep me posted on him.
