femoral pores on bearded dragon

Question
Hi there
I have a three year old male bearded dragon. Recently when I was lifting him out I noticed that there were hard bits coming out of his femoral pores along his back legs. I can only describe these as looking like hard grains of rice. Is this common?

Answer
Hello Gillian,

That is actually quite common, especially when the hormone levels have been elevated during the spring & summertime due to breeding.
If they appear to be bothering him, you can gently use some tweezers to pull them out.  At first, there will be a small hole but no worries, it will not get infected, but, will quickly fill back in with waxy substance within 1 week.
Maybe you could post a picture?
