veiled chameleon dying

Question
Hi there, my female cham (peetri) has always been lively and feisty untill about two weeks ago. She stopped eating, stopped drinking and lost her grip. We at first thought she was ready to lay eggs (though not fertilised) so placed sand in her vivarium... that was a week ago and she has only deteriorated.
We have changed her uv light, soaked her in warm water and sprayed her with calcium water also.... all to know avail. She is 12 months old... and currently lying on her side playing dead... her eyes hardly open and she seems to be struggling to get her tongue out of her mouth. its really distressing to watch and I should also let you know that she has leaves, branches, a fountain, sand, soil and has been on a diet of crickets and meal worms which she absolutely loved and now doesn't even look at.
I thankyou for reading, Rachel, uk.

Answer
Hello Rachel,

Oh that is too bad, I am sorry to hear your chameleon is not doing well.
She sure is young too.
Which UVB are you currently using right now?  What type & brand is it?  A fluorescent tube bulb or a compact/coil light?
What are her temperatures in the tank, & how do you measure them?  What is the humidity?
Is she housed alone?

Can you get her to a vet, to get some blood work or x-rays done?  If you feel that she was or has been developing eggs but is not passing them, she could be egg bound.  That can be fatal for females.
How often does she get calcium, orally?  It sounds like it could be metabolic bone disease, as well.
