Answer
Hi, Rebecca,
Before acquiring any new pet, you should research its care, so you can be sure you can provide everything that it needs.

Reptiles have specific needs in captivity, and it's not cheap to set them up.  A blue-tongued skink needs controlled heat set to specific temperatures, UVB lighting (if indoors), and a complicated diet of live insects, greens and vegetables, and fruit.  Snails are a favorite food, but definitely not the only food!

Immediately buy a book on care for this lizard, or he is likely to die of neglect.  You own a pet lizard...now you have to become 'a person who knows about lizards', and fast.  Your skink is depending on you.

Here is a starting point for you:  http://bluetongueskinks.net/care.htm

None of the essentials--heat, UVB, and a nutritious diet--can be skimped on, or the skink will not survive in the long run.
