Cricket in Bulk

Question
QUESTION: We have started buying cricket in bulk (1000) and it is working out well  One problem we have is getting them transfered. We made a cricket keeper out of a good size clear plastic container with and the top cut out with screen hot glued in. But when we get the crickets in boxes, we end up loosing a fair number as they jump and climb up the sides of the box. Do you have any suggestions or ideas on what may work to reduce the escapees?  Thank you.

ANSWER: Hello Ken,

When transferring the crickets, definitely don't use any boxes they climb very well!  I would use plastic containers when transferring them.  Even though they can still jump, they can't jump near as well, because they slide everywhere & can't climb on the plastic.  You can get them in the plastic container & quickly put a lid on it until you get them transferred to the larger plastic bin.
That should help reduce the escapees!  LOL

QUESTION: Thank you for responding.  What I am really having trouble with is getting the crickets that are shipped in cardboard boxes in the plastic bin we made to keep them in.  We open the top of the cardboard box and have it partially in the plastic tub and they climb up the box and on the lid as we try to get them all "dumped" into the plastic box.  I thought I had read something a while back on a good way to make this transfer, but that was before we were bulk cricket buyers - so I didn't read it close.  Thanks again for your help.

Answer
Hello Ken,

Oh now I see what you are talking about.  Ok.  Try putting the large plastic bin in the bathtub with the drain closed, of course!  LOL
They cannot climb the bathtub at all, so, it is actually kind of funny to watch them try to climb & flail around trying to run.
Good luck!
