Question
hi i have a nine month old male beardie who has been acting weird lately. he doesn't run around as much and he keeps digging a burrow underneath the branch. i also have a gravid female in the cage and im wondering if its because of her he's acting like this. is he sick or what? he's eating fine and awake all day and i give him 2-3 baths a week so i don't know whats wrong with him. im worried he might be ill. email me asap and any advice would be great thanks

Answer
A nine month old male is sexually active but, like a 14 year old human male, not really physiogically adult.  He may have approached the gravid female and she lashed out at him.  What is a gravid female doing in nthe same tank as a juvenile male?  Is she a juvenile herself?  If she is, that poor girl was far too young to be gravid, and if you bought them together from a pet store then there is high chance they are siblings.  You really have to separate them into different but equal habitats.  They really need to be allowed to grow into adults of at least 18 months before considering mating, and I would only consider males over 20" snout to tail, and females 18" snout to tail as good possible breeders.  Smaller than that I would say are pet quality only.
After the girl has laid her eggs in a proper laybox (instructions for one can be found at www.blackninjakitty.com click on dragons and you'll see laybox instructions) Get her to a good reptile vet to make sure she has passed them all.  Gravid juvenile females have a high rate of egg-binding which is lethal.
