QuestionI have a green anole and a Bahaman anole in the same unit. The green anole is a male and I now have evidence that my Bahaman anole is female. Is the egg fertile or are they incompatible?
AnswerHi Bryant, I recall doing some research once before on whether these two species have ever been known to hybridize and could find no evidence that it has happened. They do overlap the same native range (with the Brown being an introduced species) and are frequently housed together in captivity so there would be ample opportunity for it to occur if it could.
Anoles can store sperm from a much earlier breeding so your egg may well be fertile from a breeding that took place before you acquired the female brown.
