Vacation feeding green anole

Question
We will be gone for one week in July.  How can we keep our green anole fed while we're away?  We were thinking of leaving a week's worth of baby crickets with food for him.  He's about 6 or 7 inches long (mostly tail).  We live in a warm climate and don't use any special lighting or heating.

Answer
Hi Elaine, no matter where you are and your climate they do need special UV lighting. It is very important to their health and can be fatal if they dont have it. I suggest getting a UV bulb as soon as possible.

As far as feeding him while on vacation, you shouldnt leave food in there because if the crickets get hungry they will feed on the lizard's toes while he is asleep. Which can be very bad. Some people toss a chunk of potato in a corner of the tank so the crickets eat that instead but its still risky. Its best if you can find a friend or relative who can feed them. Is it an option of taking him with you?

Sometimes you can find a pet sitter or even a vet that will watch them, sometimes free of charge at a vets office. OTher times pet stores can take care of them as well. If those aren't options if Schools are still going where you are see if a science class will take him usually they are more then happy to pet sit its a wonderful opportunity for the class too (even colleges)

Be sure he has humidity and water too, usually when i leave I setup a large bottle of water (like a 2 liter soda bottle) and puncture small holes into it and set it atop the tank so it slowly drips in keeping humidity up and giving him something to drink.

Best of luck,
yexalen
