Question
Do these reptiles carry any diseases harmful to humans? Does it cause any form of cancer?

Answer
All creatures have certain bacteria to help them digest food and some small amounts of bacteria which can make them sick if allowed to grow too much.  This includes mammals, fish, reptiles, and amphibians. This is why hand washing is always important, no matter what or who you touch.

A well cared for bearded dragon will be as clean as any other well cared for pet...or human.

Some bacteria in their systems, such as salmonella, and sometimes giardia can be transferred to humans, but only if the animal is not kept clean and the humans do not wash after handling them.

Both these bacteria are more often caught by humans from badly cooked meats and unwashed fruits and vegetables!

All creatures can get cancer.  This is a fact of life  Can you catch it? No.

So, if you wash his salad, keep his home clean (you can paper train them) give him a bath once or twice a week, and a check-up twice a year by a good reptile veterinarian, you should have no problem as far as bacteria and/or parasite issues.  Keep the kisses to a minimum, as with all animals.
