Question
QUESTION: my baby bearded dragon has been walking funny and has wierd spasms in his whole body when he tries to move. He just started doing this and im scared it might be some thing to do with the heat stroke he had, and if not that what is it that could be causing this ? please help me. thanks

ANSWER: ?!?!? Heat stroke!  ARe you feedng him small crickets or big ones?  Baby dragons should never be fed prey which cannot sit sideways on it's head w/o hanging over the side.  IN otherwords, small dragons need small crickets.  I will need much more info to even come close to answering your question.

QUESTION: i am not a beginner lizard caregiver yes this is the first time with a beardie but i know what he eats and i have been feeding him either small crickets or mini mealworms that i was finding for a while... but it seems like he over ate a few days ago and i havent seen any fresh droppings for a couple of days now... could he have blockage... he ate like 8 crickets in one sitting and when i gave him them like three days ago...

ANSWER: Steven, please slow down and read what you are typing.  I'm having trouble following you.  1st it's having tremors, then it's HEAT STROKE(!!!-???), now it hasn't pooped?  Give the dragon a soak in warm water to help it pass stool.  And please explain how it had a heat stroke???

QUESTION: well when i got him, i actually got 2, well i made a stupid mistake and because every site i read on said that they  need a UV bulb so i went and purchased one. They already  had a basking light on them for a while and i didnt have the temp/humidity gauges. Well i got home put the light on them and immediatley they started freaking out... seizing up completely...well when i got them outside they started looking up but one of them didnt make it and so im left with him... bringing you up to date i had recently purchased the temp./humidity gauges set them up he seemed to be doing just fine the temp was 95-100 degrees and he was happy the humidity was a little high like 45-50% but it was still in the moderate range . Well like 2 day or so ago when i first sent you the question and i was panicky he wasnt doing much, the temp hadnt changed on the hot side and the humidity actually decreased a little but he was walking funny like dragging himself around almost. He has a wierd lump at his hip area. like i said the temp was fine no changes i was turning it off at night or when it got too hot. i mist him several time a day.. he is still very alert. He eats and yes he had finally pooped w/out the help of the water but he is still walking funny just like i said. i dunno if maybe he fell and hurt himself while i wasnt looking, but one night i found him almost folded in half backwards like a taco. could that have hurt him?? because the symptoms started not long after he did that , or was that just coincidence??

Answer
Steven, let's address one thing at a time.  They ABSOLUTELY DO REQUIRE a UVB bulb.  You must provide both heat and UVB in some form.  95-110 is good for the hot side.  Cool side 80-85 and cooler at night is fine.

Beardies do not bend backwards so I would bet that is your problem.  If the spine is broken or damaged he may have nerve damage which is inhibiting excretory function.  If he went on his own today that is good sign.  Remove any loose/wobbly cage furniture and anything else he could hurt himself on.

Good luck, a vet visit wouldn't hurt, but to be honest there is nothing they can do that would cost more than a new dragon or two.  Next time do your research and have your cage up and running BEFORE you bring home new animals!!!
