Question
Interested in information on RES genes.. Have several morphs and want to start breeding.. need to know what parents  to breed to produce certain traits  like Carmels, Snows,Pastels,Ghosts..

Thanks for any help & point me in the right direction.

John

Answer
John, pick a trait and then learn whether it is recessive, codominate or incomplete dominate.

Recessives bred as follows:

Normal = XX
Het = Xx
Recessive phenotype individual (for example albino) = xx

XX/xx = Xx
Xx/xx = 1/2 Xx and 1/2 xx (roughly remember it's probability not an absolute)
xx/xx = xx

Then there are double recessive traits as well, for example snows which are really "double albinos."  They lack two genes, one each for two different colors.  They are xxyy vs XXYY for a normal wild type.

The other types are still being debated as to whether they are codominate or incompletely dominate.  But basically they breed as follows if you breed a pastel ball (I'm assuming you're talking about balls) with a normal if get roughly half normal offspring and half pastels.  If you breed pastel to pastel you get "super pastel."

Hope this helps, B
