Question
my bearded dragon has a hole in the base of his tale.  it appeared from nowhere and has now started bleeding and looks nasty although it dosent seem to be bothering him at all. I would be grateful if u could give us some sort of advice. we have been applying  beaphar cream to the tear which we were told to use by the pet shop. would be very grateful if u could get back to us asap thankyou

Answer
Hello Kerry,

Can you post a picture of that hole in your dragon's tail for me please, that would be helpful.
The Beaphar cream is a dewormer paste.  I would recommend getting some antibiotic ointment such as neosporin or poloysporin that would help alot more.
Do not use hydrogen peroxide on the wound, that is cytotoxic & will kill good cells.  Use betadine instead to disinfect the area & will keep it clean.  Then, put the antibiotic ointment on it, daily.
What has caused this hole?  Do you house him with another dragon?
Do you keep crickets in his tank all day or overnight?
Did he injure himself on something sharp in his tank?
If so, the crickets can leave terrible bites on dragons which will cause horrible infections.

Let me know how he is doing.
