Question
QUESTION: I saw that you were recently asked a question about a leopard gecko with an abcess behind it's eye. My daughter also has a leopard gecko that she purchased 6 weeks ago that had the same abcess. It crusted over and this morning after finishing a molting it has fallen off. Does this sound to you like anything we should be concerned about?

ANSWER: Hello Jane,

Yes, anytime there is an abscess it can become serious especially when it is near the brain.  Did a cricket bite your leopard gecko?
Could you post a picture of him for me?

QUESTION: I don't believe he was bitten. It was there when we got him. It got bigger over the weeks and started to crust over. Then fell off when he shed. Now it is a clean open sore that seems to be healing nicely. The pics shows the before picture where the abcess is crusting over. If it were a cricket bite what would the it look like? Thanks for your time.

ANSWER: Hello Jane,

GREAT that it is healing over now.  I am just about positive that it was a cricket bite that got infected!
I was expecting a HUGE lump!  LOL  :-))  I am happy to hear that he is getting better now.
If you want, you can put some antibiotic ointment on that area to help expedite the healing process now.  So, he should not need to go to the vet now.
How is his appetite?

QUESTION: Glad to hear it was most likely a cricket bite. We have no idea how the prevous owners cared for him. We feed him at least 2-3 crickets every other day. And at that he needs to be talked into it as he doesn't seem to have much of an appetite. Been that way since we got him. The female that is with him is a much more aggressive eater. Thanks again for your time and answers. Have a good day.

Answer
Hello Jane,

Well, it IS looking better as it heals.  Just use the antibiotic ointment on it, daily, & that should help it heal a little quicker for him.
Do they each get plenty of food, & does she try to hog all of the food from him?
How big is your tank that you house them in together?
He could probably use just a little more food, not much since he is an adult.  Is his tail fat?
I am happy that Stevie is starting to do better now.
Let me know how things are coming along with him.
