Question
QUESTION: I bought my first bearded dragon (Yoshi) about a week and a half ago and he has only eaten a total of two crickets on his own.  I have the lights just like the vet said and heat is perfect   !!  Help me please !!!

ANSWER: Hello Nick,

Usually, new babies take just a little while to adjust to a new home.
What type of UVB lights are you using, is it a fluorescent tube bulb or a compact/coil light?
What are the temperatures in the tank?  Are you using a digital probe or a temp gun to measure the temperatures?
Do you have any pictures of him?
Let me know his tank set up, thanks.

QUESTION: The UVB bulb is a Zilla fluorescent tube and I checked the temps with a temp gun and the are on the basking spot 100-105 and the cool side is about 75 and the warm side is about 85-95.     The tank setup is a 75 gallon tank but I put a divider in it for now  I am using newspaper as substrate but I just ordered reptile carpet. He has two cloning logs  one of them is his basking spot. I have driftwood in the middle of the tank

Answer
Hello Nick,

How is he doing today?
The tank size is great, plus, he will grow into it soon enough.  The divider was a good idea to help him feel more secure.
I am glad to hear you are using a temp gun so the temperatures should be accurate.
The reptile carpet will be fine to use.  You can wash it out weekly or when needed.

The main change you need to make is the UVB light unfortunately.  This particular UVB tube bulb emits low wavelength frequency which is close to UVC emissions.  It does not emit the proper wavelength that is conducive to D3 synthesis.  This light has been known to cause eye injury & overall health issues.
Is the basking light you are using a bright white light or a daytime bluish type of bulb that is coated with neodymium?
I recommend getting either the Zoomed Reptisun 10 tube bulb or Arcadia D3 12% tube bulb, either one.  You can get either one of them at this site:

Let me know how he is doing.
