QuestionHi Pam,
I am hoping you may be able to shed some light on why my juvenile AWD will not eat. We have had him for approximately. two weeks and has only eaten a few crickets and four wax worms.
Lately when hand fed the wax worms are spit out. I have tried different foods, including fresh fruits and veggies. I have tried with supplements and without.
Any thoughts or suggestions, as I have only had one AWD before and have not dealt with this in the past.
Sincerely,
Hbriggs
Answer You didn't give me any info on your set-up, the AWD is a tropical lizard, who alo likes a lot of room...I'm talking 6ftLx2ftHx2-3ftD tank, with part of it set up as a private lagoon for swimming. Basking area should be 90F, ambient temp 84-88F, around 75F during the night. They need good UVB, like a Reptisun 10.0, changed every 6 months. They need total dark at night for a proper sleep. Lack of any one of these will affect diet.
Also parasites may be a cause. Has he been seen by a good herp vet? If you haven't yet or don't know one, you can go to www.herpvetconnection.com and find one closest to you.
