Question
QUESTION: Hello, my name is Morgan and Im an owner of a Waterdragon. She is around 2 years old, and shes around 14 to 15 inches long. I was concerned about my water dragon because she didnt open her eyes or hardly move for about 2 weeks. She does go through spells when the weather changes and
she sleeps for a couple days so I thought it might just be one of those spells again because we were having thunderstorms everyday in the afternoon, but I got
worried. I took her in to the vet, and they diagnosed my female water dragon
with corneal ulcers in both eyes. They wanted to know how the tank was set up and I had pictures to show them they said Im doing everything right and she might have gotten the ulcers from the plants in her tank or something else. First they gave me Sulfate Ophthalmic Solution 0.3%. I tried that for about a week and I saw no signs of her getting any better. I took her back in and they said to try Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfates and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic Suspension. I gave her that for two days then I went out of town for 2 days. The doctor said it shouldnt be a problem if I just come back and put the solution in her eyes twice a day. I did that for another week, nothing happend. I finally took her in a third time and they said i should try Terramycin and that I should take her out of her tank and keep her in plastic bin I have thats large so theres nothing that can keep irritating her eyes until they
have healed. She still keeps her eyes closed pretty much all day and doesn't
hardly move around. Her color is still a bright green, I have been able to feed her and keep her hydrated. Im just
wondering how long does it take for her eyes to heal?. Does it take them a while to recover? I dont know what else to do. I just want her better! If you could please write me back that would be GREAT! thank you

ANSWER: Hello Morgan,

I am sorry about your water dragon's eyes.
What type of lighting are you using?  Do you use a UVB light & if so, what type & brand do you use?  A fluorescent tube bulb or a compact/coil light?
Are you using a bright white basking light as well?
Do you have any pictures of her?

It sounds like you are using a harmful light in her tank.  Do you have any pictures of her tank as well?

If their eyes have been damaged by bad lights, it can take weeks for their eyes to get back to normal but it does depend on the severity.

The terramycin may help, yes.  Have you gotten some of that yet?

What plants do you use in her tank?
What are you feeding her right now?

Answer
Hello Morgan,

Thank you for the pictures.
I would try taking the bark out as it doesn't hold enough humidity for her.  Try the bed a beast or a coconut husk fiber type of bedding instead.
You can try taking out the plastic for awhile to see if that makes any difference right now.
How far away is the lighting from her?
