Feeder size for my leopard gecko

Question
My Leo
My Leo
I have a juvenile leopard gecko that's approximately 5 inches long (I have attached a picture since that's a rough estimate). I just got my gecko 3 weeks ago and since I'm still a new owner I'm a little bit nervous about making sure I do everything right. I've been to two different petstores and both told me the same thing. Since I got my leo I have fed it nothing but small crickets (1/4 - 1/2 inch). The first petstore I went to was a small pet shot in town and despite the fact that I asked for small crickets the woman tried to sell me medium-large crickets. I questioned it and she said that it would be ok and that I just wouldn't have to feed him as much. This kind of made me mad because I thought she was just trying to make a sale. I took out the crickets that I knew for sure were too large and used the smallest ones from the bunch. That worked out just fine. Well this time I went to petsmart to buy the usual small crickets and the guy is telling me that if my leo is about 5 inches head to tail that it is ok to feed medium to large crickets (the crickets petsmart sold me were about 3/4 of an inch to 1 inch long. Some of them are pretty fat too). Well I'm frustrated because this doesn't match up with the information that I've researched. Every care sheet that I have read says not to feed anything bigger than the space between their eyes. I've also heard that too large feeders can cause impaction. He takes the larger ones, but of course not as easily as the smaller ones, he doesn't regurgitate them and so far has been defecating. I'm just concerned about whether or not this is healthy for my leo

Answer
Hello Loretta,
Yes, to large of feeders can cause impaction, especially in the small reptiles.
He is pretty small, so he only should have the small crickets.  He is not large enough to have the medium to large crickets.  Normally, they really should only ever get medium crickets, because they they do have a tendency to get impacted relatively easily.
It would be much easier for him to eat the smaller ones right now, at his age & size.

I hope this helps out.
