Question
Is it possible to train geckos to do little tricks or anything like that.I have taught him to sit on my shoulder, come over to me and things like that but i want to know if they are able to do tricks and things, AKA. Stand on his hind legs and stuff.

Answer
Hi Dominic,
As far as actual "on command" training such as what is done with a dog, no..not really.  Reptiles don't have the ability to be trained that way. They can to an extent be "conditioned" to do things such as you have done with him sitting on your shoulder or coming over to you.  You can most likely condition him to stand up on his hind legs to take an insect from your hand...he may need to use your hand to support his front legs. Most likely the 3 things you mention would be the extent of what he can be conditioned to do.  It does sound like you have a very social leo which is wonderful.  I have one that is like that and every time I am near her tank she comes out of her cave(even during the day) and wants me to hold her..which is evident by her "glass dancing" which is her scratching at the side of the tank.  She will also stand up on her hind legs with her front feet on my finger when I offer her an insect.
They really aren't tricks, such as laying down, back flips, etc...(as dogs can be taught) but things that would come natural to them...looking for food, etc.  You could probably get him to climb from one level to another with some ease...again using food as a motivator.
If you do get more things that you teach him, I would love to know about them!!!!
