Question
hello, i was asking if a leo gecko and a leo tortoise can live together, the cage i built is built upwards with significant ground space for the tortoise and numerous hides and climbs for the gecko, would they be able to coexist. the only thing they would share would be the water bowl, and the basking spot (which is very large).
could they?

Answer
Hi,
The care that the two species require could not be more different.  Different species cannot be housed together for many reasons.  Other than care requirements, disease is a major factor.
With The two species you are asking about, the tort is a high uvb requiring critter, and is diurnal(active during the day) and a leopard gecko is nocturnal...(active in the evening, night)
Temperatures, diet, humidity, etc are all very, very different.
Leopard geckos are also ground dwellers.
Leopard geckos require ground warmth...  torts are overhead heat.
So, in short, no, the two species cannot co exist in captivity.  There are no species that should ever be housed together in captivity.
I'm not sure you are aware of this but, a leopard tortoise can reach weights of 100 lbs, with about 70 lbs being normal.  The size of an enclosure for such a tort is a large room in a house.
I'm very glad you asked about this before obtaining the two species, then finding out that it cannot be done.
