Cedar and Iguana question

Question
I have a Iguana that I have had since July and he is getting much bigger and there for requires a bigger habitat.

I went to local hardware store and bought 12 2x2 cedar boards that I want to use as the frame of his 5x5x2.5 cage. Now my question is, is it ok to use the cedar to frame is habitat?
I have done a little research and everyone says that cedar is toxic to use a substrate, but I use artificial turf for substrate.

So he won't be ingesting it in any way. Plus I could pain over top of the cedar to prevent it from leaking toxic fumes in to his habitat. I'm wondering if it's ok to use still?

Thank you for your time..

Answer
Hello George,

The cedar will be fine to frame the tank with but you don't want to build the entire tank out of it.  Be sure to paint & seal it well, that will help keep the aromatic hydrocarbons from emitting too much.  Also, you should let it dry & offgas after painting & sealing it for at least 2 weeks so it cures completely.
Definitely do not use pine or cedar shavings for substrate they will kill your iguana.  The artificial turf is fine though!
