Question
QUESTION: I am planning on getting a crested gecko, and I have a regular aquarium tank I housed a Leopard gecko in. Its a 15 gallon tank with a mesh lid. Its dimensions are 2'x1'x1'. Please tell me if this is an O.K. tank for a crested gecko.

ANSWER: Hi Kiran, You have a 15 galllon which is often recommended as sufficient (but the minimum) for a single crested. Depending on how your lid fits you might want to consider turning the tank on its end to give your crested more vertical climbing space. Enjoy your new gecko, they can be real charmers.

QUESTION: Thanks, but i have another question. My tank is just a regular tank with a mesh lid. Im not sure what to do to make it more vertically friendly. Do i have to make new doors or replace the mesh?

Answer
Hi Kiran, It's not absolutely necessary, a crested will be fine in a horizontal 15 gal as well.  The tank I used had a lid that fit within the rim of the tank, rather then fitting over the outside rim of the tank. Essentially it fit like a "door" inside a door frame(if that makes sense) which allowed the tank to be set vertically and the lid to still come off easily. It would not work with a lid that had to go over the outer rim of the tank, unless there was a smaller access door already built into the lid.
