Prolapsed Cloaca

Question
Our bearded dragon has what appears to be a Prolapsed Cloaca. We have removed her from the sand, and sent an email picture of her bottom to the vet. He thinks she needs to be put down. Can you tell me if there is anything we can do to save her? Does this heal itself?

Answer
No it doesn't, but unless you have kept her wrapped in a cloth saturated with sugar water, or even kept moist, the vet may be right.
If you have kept it wet, go to the nearest emergency vet, even if they don't do reptiles, a prolapse is a prolapse, a vet can push a moist prolapse back in and apply a stitch on either side to keep it in.  However if it was allowed to dry, I'm afraid it will no longer be viable.
