Getting rid of a Black Racer

22 15:09:57

Question
I have an enclosed courtyard that I like to spend time in.  We are only in Florida for several mths and then it is vacant.  This Black racer has made his home here.  Most of the time he is in hiding but he does come out to sun.  I know hes not harmful but I'm terrified to sit outdoors.  Its spoiled my preciouse time in Florida.  How can I get him to move.  Some said Mothballs, some said garlic.  My dog does not seem to bother him but I can't put dcon out because of the dog. We havent been able to catch him to kill him and now I saw a tiny baby snake.  Not black, with diamonds on the back.

Thank You   Sandi

Answer
hi sandi
Well, you have good cause to be frightened...black racers are notoriously aggressive. As you know, they are not poisonous, but can give a nasty bite. As for the snake with diamonds on the back, stay away from it; it could be a cottonmouth or baby rattlesnake.

The best solution i can think of is to call an animal control service. There are some people(especially in florida) that all they do is remove snakes from peoples yards. Try the yellow pages, and also call some pet stores(or if there are any in your town, reptile stores) to see if they provide a removal service, or if the know anyone that does.

hope this helps, if you have any further questions feel free to ask
