Lighting and Heating Question

Question
Hi,

I have a couple of questions regarding heating and lighting. I am in
the process of making a few final decisions and getting my cages
built. I am thinking of replacing their old heating and lighting
lamps with the Mercury Vapor kind. Here are my two questions:

Is there any harm with still using a flourescent and/or UVB bulb in
addition to the Mercury Vapor to add additional light without the
accompanying heat from one end of the cage to the other. And if
there is issue with that, what can be used to light up the entire
enclosure if the one lamp is not enough?

Also, I would appreciate any lighting/heating lamp designs. The kind
we have discussed thus far are fixtures that would be affixed to the
ceiling which could be lifted open. The same thing, but with a
screen built in below it, or just have a screen top and have the
lights on top (but I am a little concerned with having the bulb touch
the screen) and/or any other suggestions.

The only issue(s) have with having it affixed to the ceiling, is that
if I ever had a surge that for some reason the surge protector was
unable to absorb, I am afriad it could burst (don't know really how
realistic that is though), and also because when I am misting them,
my female in particular *loves* to "air/mist-swim" and sometimes
likes to jump toward the heat lamp when she gets excited (dont know
why she does this...).

Also, if affixed to the top, should it point directly down or have
the ability (if possible) to be rotated or moved?..

Sorry that was so long - and I hope it made at least a little sense.

Thanks!  :+)

Answer
Hello, i cna only help with a few things here, First I think amurcurey vapor bulb give suvb and heat I've never used one so am not too sure...this is fine but some lizards perfer going to there uvb and going to tehre heat source at different times...my bearded dragon gos to his heat lmap then to his uvb for an hour or so and back all day...he shows little intrest in sitting under both at teh same time which could easily be done. I reccomend a uvb bulb the ull lenth of the cage if your ahving lighting problems get a 36-48 inch shop type fixture...try finding the bulb first thou because I dontknow how long tehy make them...or you can use two 245 inche or whatever you need to go over the whole cage. If the lights are hot and touching something that Can catch fire move them so they are no longer touching this material. sorry if this isnt very helpful but I only have ever kept lizards and frogs in fish tanks which ading a wire top and a light fixture or two to is very simple.
