Leopard Gecko with cloudy eye

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I have a 5 year old leopard gecko who has developed a cloudy, cataract like appearance over one eye. The other eye looks like it may be starting, too.Gecko is eating and looks otherwise healthy. How can I tell if it is a shed issue, or infection? Is there anything that I can purchase to try and rinse out the eye? Thanks!

ANSWER: Hello Danielle,

Wow, this seems to happen relatively often with geckos for some reason.
What is the humidity in the tank?  What are the temperatures in the tank?
Does it appear that his eye area is going to shed?
You can purchase a sterile saline solution to put in his eyes, once daily.  Does the eye look like it is getting infected, or can you tell?  Do you have any pictures of the eye (s) for me?

Thanks.

QUESTION: Hi, Tracie
Temp in tank is 80 degrees in the tank. For humidity, I spritz the tank, daily and there is always a full water dish.Does not look like eye is going to shed. She shed about 1 1/2 weeks ago.I tried saline last night and it seemed to clear it up a bit, but today she will not open it all of the way.I think I see some white stuff in the corner of the eye.Infection? The other "good" eye looks fine.I cant get a good pic because she is keeping the eye closed but I will keep trying. Thanks!

ANSWER: Hello Danielle,

Poor girl.  Keep trying to use the sterile saline solution.
Do you use sand as a substrate for her, or something else?
Have you tried any antibiotic eye ointment called Terramycin?  That may help out for her.
Is she eating anything right now?

QUESTION: Hello, again. We use reptile mat and papaer towels as substrate.I have not tried Teramycin.Where can you purchase it and what is the best way to apply it?She does seem to be eating. Thanks!

Answer
Hello Danielle,

That is great you are not using any loose substrate then.  The paper towels are fine then.
The Terramycin can be used daily in the eye to help clear up infections.
I actually sell that online in my reptile store.
Here is my website if you want to try some.

That is great she is eating right now with her eye being this way.
Let me know how she is doing.
