Question -
my son just brought home a basilisk lizard from the flea market and has put him in with our new iguana is that going to work?

Answer -
No, it's not.  If your ig is a baby, the basilisk, an omnivore, might eat him.  Also both lizards are territorial and neither will want to share.
The basilisk will need a 60gal or a built enclosure that's larger, they like territory.  Temperatures and Lighting/UVB requirements are the same.  They are also water-loving, so a sizable waterpan is needed, along with frequent mistings.
Their diet includes similar salad to iguanas, good greens, like collards, turnip greens, dandelions, mustard greens, grated winter squashes, green beans, snap beans... plus insects, and some fruit. Crickets, superworms, and when adult, pinky mice.

Answer
As a general rule, you just don't mix species, plus, you don't know what parasites the new lizard brought into that ig's cage.  And intimidation can be subtle.  This now means that both animals will have to be checked by your herp vet in two weeks.  For the safety of both animals, get them separated ASAP.
