Question
Hi, can a leopard gecko live in a terrarium with a cactus if you have the right substrate? Thanks!

Answer
Hi Sam,
Since sand is deadly to leos in aquariums (see link at )...A very graphic site of an impacted leo surg can be seen at http://homepage.mac.com/exoticdvm/reptile/PhotoAlbum181.html   it is very graphic!!! ) to see why any sand can be deadly)
You can place small cacti in pots in the tank....DO NOT use any cactus that have any sort of spines or spikes on that as that they will harm your leo very easily. Your leo may decide to climb on the cactus also. A few other problems that can arise is that the cacti don't get enough light.. If you want to try some live cactus in the tank, choose spineless ones..and I would try to find cheap ones to see how they do in the tank first.
I've seen some really neat looking fake cactus in stores..I would go with them instead of real ones.
