Tiger salamander feeding

Question
Hi. I have some juvie tigers.

I have been feeding them crickets (which I gutload.)

However, the crickets go real quick. Usually 10 dozen go within a week or two.

I think I shall begin buying in bulk.

How large of a container should I have to house 500+ pin head crickets?

Also, is it OK to feed them mealworms, waxworms, nightcrawlers, etc?

I'd like to vary their diets a little since they are growing babies, but not sure what is good and what is fatty.

Thank you!!

Answer
Dear Kayla,
thank you for your question.
I would get a 5 or 10g tank for the crickets, with a lid that closes tightly. You can use egg containers or crumpled paper for the crickets to hide in and to make more room for them.
Definitely feed other prey, too. Mealworms, superworms/zophobas and waxworms are fatty, as almost all beetle larvae. Silkworms (alive or dried) can be fed, too, as well as locusts or roaches - not wild ones, though, there's a risk of parasites and insecticides/weedkillers may have been ingested by them . Blaptica dubia is a good feeder roach for example. Nightcrawlers are an excellent source of calcium, as are rolypolies, although many herps don't really like them.
I hope I was of some help to you
