Question
Hi
I have a two year old male bearded dragon named Bubbles. He has a very large tank (five feet by two feet) proper lighting and heat (I have done TONS of research on these guys) and I spray him with calcium enriched water twice daily. I have had him for over a year and a half now and just recently he stopped eating his veggies altogether. He was never a big veggie eater but now he will not eat any. Also, he has not pooped in almost a month and a half... The longest he ever went was a month without pooping and he was in full blown brumation then. I gave him a warm bath and rubbed his tummy but to no avail. Usually after a warm bath a good rub down he will go within twenty four hours but still nothing....I have a feeling he might be in brumation as he is starting to snub even crickets and is sleeping under his log all day long but he has never gone so long without pooping before. Is this normal? Also, the last time he went I noticed the white stuff in his poop had a tinge of pink. Is this normal either?

Answer
The tinge of pink tells me he should be checked by a vet for parasites.  The urates should be white, also, I would not bother with calcium water, good clean water is far better.  Dust the crickets or mix in with the salad.

Brumation takes so many forms, he may be in brumation because his metabolism has slowed down.  I have one female who slept for 6 months between poops!  At this moment I have beardies who have stayed awake, but only pooping every two weeks or so, I have beardies who have been asleep since September, I have about 7 who have awakened, but still slow which means they could go back to sleep at any time.  And I have two boys that are what we call "branch potatoes" sitting on their rocks basking, eyes open, not eating or pooping.  And it's all normal.
