treating a leopard gecko

Question
After talking to two different vets we were treating her for swelling to the head on her right side. While treating her we noticed she had 2 puss pockets. One under her eye and one on her lower jaw. We opened both areas and removed a large solid mass of puss from each. We also removed a slender object about a quarter of an inch long from the right side of her mouth. We cleaned both areas with peroxide and applied Neosporin. This was three days ago ande she seems to be doing fine. she still isn't eating, but she is drinking. Plus weare giving a little water with a dropper while treating. Can you tell us your thoughts on cause and treatment options? Thanks!

Answer
Hello Don,

What type of setup do you have for your gecko?  How old is she?
Something definitely caused that infection though.  Is she on any antibiotics, orally right now?
It sounds like she is doing remarkably well.  Did they culture the mass to determine what it was?
I would not use peroxide though as that is cytotoxic & can kill good cells.  I would use diluted betadine instead which preserves the good cells.  The neosporin is fine.
Do you leave crickets in the tank with her that could have bitten her perhaps?
If she is not eating, you could try to get some chicken or turkey babyfood into her by dripping it onto the end of her nose to see if she wants to lick some of it off.
