Question
hi there ive only had my gecko a few days and he started to shed his skin i stupily peeled it off and then remembered that its really bad to do that he didnt seem to mind at all when i did though i bathed his skin in luke warm water and im hoping that hel be ok is their anything i can do and do you think hel be ok? thanks very much.

Answer
If the skin peels off easily, and isn't stuck, and the animal has already begun to shed, it won't do any harm.  The danger is when the shed is stuck, and you try to peel it off anyhow--then, it can damage the new skin that it's stuck to.  If you have a proper humid hide and/or humidity levels, then there's little chance of a stuck shed.

However...
You should not handle your gecko at all, other than briefly to clean the cage, for at least a full week after you first bring it home.  You should make sure that your gecko is eating heartily and is in good health before you begin handling.  Handling is very stressful for reptiles, and stress reduces immune system function, so a stressed reptile is more likely to contract bacterial infections and become ill.  It can also cause them to lose the battle if they are fighting parasites, fungal infections, or a virus.

Keep handling sessions very short until your gecko is fully tamed, and always be aware that time outside of his cage means time away from a proper environment.  I do not recommend keeping him out for longer than 45 minutes per day, even once he is fully tamed and acclimated to handling.
